Reflections on Online Teaching

During the pandemic, online learning has been most students’ only avenue for connection with faculty and their peers, so excellence and sensitivity in online teaching is everything this year. The pandemic has been extremely stressful, isolating, and scary for all of us, in particular students, and I want as much as possible to create a space that feels warm, welcoming, fun, caring, and safe for them. I do my best to (re)create the “Trent experience” through the platforms and technologies that we have access to during this time, and to acknowledge and provide accommodations for the real struggles that many students are facing. What does it mean to you to be nominated for this award? I am honoured and delighted to be recognized for my efforts to create a positive and safe online space for students this year.
